An article published today (Wednesday, May 29) by the Catholic Church News Service, which is published under the title “The Catholic Church is still alive and kicking”, states that while the Catholic church has “died” the Catholic faith and the Church as a whole, the Catholic hierarchy is “not dead”.
“The church is alive and thriving,” the article states.
“As long as the bishops and priests continue to preach the gospel of the unity of Christ and the Gospel of the Holy Trinity, they will continue to be heard and respected.”
In a statement on its website, the Vatican said that Pope Francis is “the first pontiff who has never died, nor has he been forced to leave office.”
“Today we celebrate the new pope who, like Jesus Christ, has survived death and will continue his mission to spread the Gospel throughout the world,” the statement states.
“We salute his predecessors, who have never died nor have they been forced into retirement.”
“The Pope has always been faithful and the whole of the Catholic world, the whole Church and the world, has loved and followed him and he will continue with that love and that obedience.”
Francis’ first official day as pope came last Wednesday.
